The variety of saltwater game fish available in North Carolina is astounding. See the NC Department of Marine Fisheries website for size & catch limits: http://www.ncfisheries.net/recreational/recguide.htm On January 1, 2007 all recreational saltwater anglers will be required to have a recreational coastal waters fishing license.

List of NC coastal game fish - African Pompano Albacore Amberjack American Shad Barracuda Black Drum Black Sea Bass Bluefish Bonito; Atlantic, Spotted/Little Tunny/False Albacore, Cobia Croaker Dolphin/Dorado/Mahi Mahi Flounders; Summer, Southern, & Gulf Gray Triggerfish Groupers; Red, Scamp, Yellowfin, Yellowmouth, Black, Gag, Speckled Hind, & Warsaw (Nassau grouper, and Goliath grouper/Jewfish are prohibited) Grunts Hickory Shad Hogfish Ladyfish King Mackerel Marlin; Blue, & White Mullet Pigfish Pinfish Pompano Red Drum (world record 94lbs, 2 oz. came from NC ) Sailfish Sharks: Black Tip, Hammerhead, Mako, Tiger, (basking, white, sand tiger, and whale are prohibited) Sheepshead Snappers; Red Porgy/Silver Snapper, Dog, Gray, Cubera, Mahogany, Queen, Schoolmaster, Yellowtail, Mutton, Silk, Blackfin, Red, & Vermillion/Beeliner Spadefish Spanish Mackerel Spot Spotted Seatrout/Speckled Seatrout Striped Bass Tarpon Tuna;Yellowfin, Bluefin, Bigeye, Blackfin, Skipjack Wahoo Weakfish/Gray Trout
